ブラジル：リオデジャネイロ出身。現在オランダで活動するグラフィックデザイナー/アーティストであるYomar Augusto。タイポグラフィを専攻してきただけあって作品にはかなりのこだわりが見え隠れすると共にブラジルで生まれ育ったバックグラウンドが絶妙に 混じり合い独特のテイストを出している。
今年7月には東京渋谷にあるNanzuka Underground (http://www.nug.jp/)にて自身日本初となるソロエキシビジョン"The Letter Forest"を開催し日本でも確実に知名度が上昇しているアーティストと謂える。


Hitspaper：自己紹介をお願いします。
Yomar：私はリオリオデジャネイロ出身のブラジル人で30歳です。現在はオランダでグラフィックデザイナー、アーティストとして活動しています。
2004〜2005年にハーグにあるoyal Academy of Artでタイポグラフィの修士号を取得する為にヨーロッパに渡ってきました。
妻でありグラフィックデザイナーのRejane Dal BelloはロッテルダムのStudio Dumbarに勤務していて次にステップに行く間ここに数年間留まることを許してくれています。
ヨーロッパに渡る前はリオデジャネイロのスタジオとニューヨークに短い期間ですが勉強をした経験がありますね。
それからバルセロナとベルリンでRojoの仕事をしたのですが、その時は世界中から集められた18人のアーティストとファッションブランドに大きな旋風を巻き起こすため共に制作した経緯があります。
私の最終的な目標は作品の中にアートとデザインを巧くとけ込ませて混合させることです。

Hitspaper：Could you tell us your history?
Yomar：I'm Brazilian from Rio de Janeiro, male, 30 years old, Graphic Designer and Artist currently living and working in The Netherlands.
I came to Europe to pursue a MA Degree in Typography at Royal Academy of Art in The Hague between 2004 and 2005.
My wife, graphic designer Rejane Dal Bello is working at Studio Dumbar in Rotterdam, so we agreed to stay in the country for more some years before to decide our next steep.
Before Europe, I had my one man studio in Rio de Janeiro and a short period experience in New York City.
I've been part of Rojo Artstorm in Barcelona and in Berlin, working together with Rojo magazine and more 18 artists from all over the world, building a huge brainstorm creating a campaign for a fashion brand.
My aim is try to combine art and design.

Hitspaper：作品を通じて表現したいことを教えて下さい。
Yomar：私の場合あまりそれについては考えていません。ただ作りたいものを制作しているだけです。
作品は絶えず制作の過程で変化していきますし、その中で活力というエネルギーを探し続けています。
そして最終的な結果が最も重要ですしたぶんそれが私の本当に表現したいことなんだと思います。とは言ったもののまだ模索していますが、、、

Hitspaper：Whats are you trying to express through your work?
Yomar：I don't think too much about it, I just do it.
My work keeps changing during the process, the energy "in action" is what I'm looking for, is much more important then the final result, maybe this is my real expression but I really could not say precisely.

Hitspaper：日本で開催されたエキシビジョン"The Letter Forest"について教えて下さい。
Yomar：+81 (http://www.plus81.com/)から10ヶ月前にEメールと手紙でコンタクトを貰ったのです。その後、
Nanzuka Underground (http://www.nug.jp/)を経営しているNanzukaShinjiが私に個展を開かないかと誘ってくれたことがきっかけで東京の渋谷でエキシビジョンを開く決心をしました。
エキシビジョンはフォトグラフとドローイング、カリグラフィ、シルクスクリーン、それからいくつかのスケッチブック合計30点程の作品をミックスしたものでしたね。

Hitspaper：Could you tell us about "The Letter Forest" in japan?
Yomar：Letter Forest project born when Shinji Nanzuka from Nanzuka Underground (http://www.nug.jp/) invited me to come to Japan after saw me at one article about Brazilian designers, artists at +81 (http://www.plus81.com/) After 10 months of emails and letters, we finally arrive in Japan to show 30 works at the gallery in Shibuya.
The exhibition was a mix of photography, drawings, calligraphy, silkscreen prints and some sketchbooks.

Hitspaper：クリエーターにとって最も重要な要素は何だと思いますか？
Yomar：旅行すること。スケッチブック、それから何事も持続させること。

Hitspaper：What do you think is the most important elements for artist?
Yomar：Traveling, sketchbooks and persistence.

Hitspaper：作品を制作して満足いく瞬間を教えて下さい。
Yomar：そうですね、、、私が言えることは制作、生産している最中でしょうか。

Hitspaper：When can you have a satisfaction from your work?
Yomar：I guess I can say that my satisfaction coming from working, being productive.

Hitspaper：あなたの周りの制作環境を教えて下さい。
Yomar：私は2004年からオランダに住んでいてその当時から素晴らしいアートとデザインを肌で感じてることができました。そういった素晴らしい時間を過ごせたことそこから学べたことは非常に誇りに思っています。
しかしながらやはり私にはブラジルで育ったというバックグラウンドがありそれを強く感じますし、今後はそれらをミックスさせることが課題になっていますね。
そして個人的な次なるステップは新しい過程の中でのマテリアルの追求と異なるアプローチ同士を組み合わせることが命題です。

Hitspaper：Please talk about the environment around you?
Yomar：I've been in The Netherlands since 2004 and the design and art scene is amazing, is incredible how design is part of the dutch culture, and I'm really proud to be able to be here and to learn and produce as much as I can.
But I'm really connected with my brazilian background where I try to mix both as much as I can, bring to a personal next level, trying new process, clashing approaches and exploring materials.

Hitspaper：クリエイティブシーンで興味があることを教えて下さい。
Yomar：コンセプチュアルなインプレッショニスト、カリグラフィ、写真とミックスされたデジタルベクターイラストレーション。

Hitspaper：What genre do you find interesting in the creative scene?
Yomar：Abstract impressionist, calligraphy and digital vector illustration combing with photography.

Hitspaper：将来のビジョンを教えて下さい。
Yomar：私は近い将来と遠い将来二つのビジョンがあります。今はパーソナルプロジェクトをヨーロッパで2年ないし3年ほど大きなエージジェンシーの元で活動する予定です。
そして遠い未来のはリオデジャネイロで学校を開校したいですね。福祉とデザイン、アートこれが私の生きる目標です。
現在私のスタジオで活動する傍らで講義なども行っているのでその時はこの経験が役に立つでしょうね。

Hitspaper：Please tell us your future vision?
Yomar：I have several plans for a "near" future and a "far" future, for now I'll continuos living in Europe for more two or three years working inside a big agency with more people and running my personal projects as well.
I have an aim to start a school in Rio de Janeiro, combining social work with design and art, this is my life plan.
I will be running my studio inside of the school, so I will be able to teach and run my projects at the same time.

Hitspaper：最後に日本人に向けてメッセージをお願いできますか?
Yomar：日本はいつ も私にとってクリエイティブな象徴的存在でした。10日間ほど東京に滞在してエキシビジョンを開催してみて以前の想像していた通りの場所だと確信できまし たし、日本は本当にインスピレーションを与える場所です!!!エキシビジョンを開いたことで素晴らしい人間に出会えましたし、次なるステップや活力をたく さん戴きました。
最後にこの記事を読んでくれてそしてこういった機会を与えてくれて本当にありがとうございます。

Hitspaper：in conclusion ,can I have the message from you to japanese people??
Yomar：
Japan always has been an iconic place for me, after these 10 days in Tokyo, building the exhibition I could say that I reached much more that I could possibly imagine.
Japan is an inspirational place!!! I met great people and I felt my work going to a next level after Letter forest project, giving me energy for new projects and exhibitions.
