ブルックリン在住の異色なアーティストWILLIAM LAMSON(ウィリアム・ラムソン)。彼が思い描く男らしさ、勇敢さ、があふれるユートピアを笑い(彼自身は全く笑いをとろうと思っていないが)、馬鹿馬鹿しさ(彼が言うところの素人感)
というフィルターを通じて表現する非常に興味深い人物だ。元々写真を勉強していただけあって撮られ方(彼自身がパフォーマンスを行う)が巧い。現代版ドンキホーテ。
Hitspaper：あなたについて教えて下さい。
Wlil：私は高校2年生の夏から写真を撮り始めて大学在学中に本格的に勉強をはじめてたのですが、大学院が通っていた頃、写真は私にあった仕事ではないと気付き
今の仕事になったわけです。
Hitspaper：Could you tell us about your history?
Wlil：I began taking pictures the summer after my sophomore year in high school, and I continued studying photography throughout college, however it was not until after graduate school that I felt I was making work which was my own.

Wlil：私の作品は、男らしさ、アマチュアリズム、科学、遊びと実現不可能な問題に自身の勇敢さをもって戦うことが根底にあります。
私は活動的で愛によってそれらを達成する素人(未熟者)に興味があるのです。技術的、専門性が高い技術が欠如しているのでだいぶ作品を制限さぜることも多いですが。
だから私は人間の闘争とどのようにしてそれらを通じて作品を表現するか人間の本質を研究することが業績になるでしょう。
Hitspaper：Whats are you trying to express through your work?
Wlil：My work addresses issues of masculinity, amateurism, science, play and the quixotic quest for personal heroism that accompanies these subjects.
I am interested in the character of the amateur, the person who is motivated by love for the activity and a desire to achieve, but is limited by a lack of physical and technical expertise.
Through the exploration of this character my work deals with human struggle and how we create meaning through it.

Wlil：私が思うに遊び感覚を持つことですね。何故ならそうすることによって新しい方法論を発見できるからです。
Hitspaper：What do you think is the most important elements for Artist?
Wlil：For me, maintaining a sense of play is the most important element to being an artist, because it is out of these irreverent gestures that we can discover a new way to make work.

Wlil：予想外の驚くべきサプライズが起こった時ですね。
Hitspaper：When can you have a satisfaction from your work?
Wlil：I am satisfied with a work when I am surprised by it, when it does something that I did not totally expect.

Wlil：私は現在ブルックリンに住んでいます。ここは非常に素晴らしいが物価など高いですね、、、ここに長く住めば住むほど贅沢をしているのが
良くわかります。ちょうど1週間ほどベルリンに戻っていたのですがそちらの方がはるかに安いですから。しかし、何故そうまでしてここに留まっているのか考えさせられましたよ。
Hitspaper：Please talk about the environment around you?
Wlil：I live in Brooklyn, which is great, but expensive and the longer I live in New York, the more I realize what a luxury it is to live here.
I just came back from being in Berlin for a week, and because rents are so much cheaper there, it really made me examine why I am here and what its doing for me.

Wlil：今ちょうど興味深いのは彫刻とパフォーマンス、インスタレーションの中間に位置するアーティストですね。
なぜなら私自身の作品もそういった方向性ですから。
Hitspaper：What genre do you find interesting in the creative scene?
Wlil：Right now I am most interested in artists who work between sculpture, performance and installation.
This is because my own work is moving into this direction.

Wlil：ちょうど今、動いてるプロジェクトがいくつかあります。しかし多くは資金提供を受けるか研修を受けるかしなければならないでしょう。
今から3年前に再び写真を撮ることを始めましたがまずは周りを良くみる必要があったのです。
しかし現在では写真より他に興味があることを見つけましたね、、、それは彫刻とそれらの事柄で発見するサトルティな方法論で、
それらは計画性と生産性を多いに含んだ本当にすばらしいチャンスなのです。

Wlil：There are a number of project that I am working on right now, but a lot of them depend on getting funding or receiving a residency.
I just started a body of work that goes back to the process of picture making I was doing 3 years ago, that largely involves driving around and making pictures of things that I find.
But now, instead of just photographing things the way that I find them, I am building small temporary sculptures or subtlety changing the way that I find these objects.
It’s a really nice break from work that involves lots of planning and production.

クリエイティブエージェンシーWieden+Kennedyのブランドブック“A story of who we are：私たちの物語”がリリース。このブックは世界中にある全７オフィスをフィルターにして、ワイデン＋ケネディのユニークなストーリーを紹介し、150ページのハードカバーの１冊に納められ、それぞれのオフィスのカルチャーガイド、同社の創立者であるDan Wiedenのステッカー、東京オフィス発の音楽レーベルW+K TokyoLabのCD/DVD、そして本の裏表紙に埋まっているUSBメモリスティックで構成されている。
Soothe one-man live 2009

津軽三味線・和太鼓・ギター・ベース・ドラムからなるインストゥルメンタル ジャムバンド[Soothe]が、2009年4月25日(土)に、duo MUSIC EXCHANGEにてワンマンライブを開催する。今回のワンマンライブでは、ミュージシャンはもちろん、世界的に有名なアーティストとの映像によるコラボも予定している。初夏には３枚のアルバムも、リリースされる予定で、今回は、特別にLive会場のみでの先行発売もおこなわれる。今後注目のバンドだけにぜひ足を運んで欲しい。

G/P galleryにて2月27日(金)から、今世界で最も注目される写真家の一人、スティーヴン・ギルの日本初個展となる『Hackney Flowers』を開催中。作家の代表作である同名のシリーズは全47点で構成されており、今回はオリジナルプリントを10点展示、また本展会期中には同シリーズ全47点を含めたオリジナルプリントを販売している。

仙台クリエイティブ・クラスター・コンソーシアムの平成20年度助成事業であるfeslabがプロデュースするイベントが2009年3月17日(火)〜29日(日)の会期で開催。テーマは「交差」。現実と空想、音楽と映像、光と影、過去と未来、視覚と聴覚といった境界線そのものを体験するインスタレーションの展示となっている。
