フィンランド：ヘルシンキ出身。現在はロンドンで活動するイラストレーターKlaus Haapaniemi。現在37歳。
コミカルなキャラクーターや自然を連想させるイラストレーションが特徴的。
ファッションとの結び付きが強く過去多くのファッションブランドDiesel、Stylelab、ondなどとコラボレーションをしている。
インタビュー直前にも来日している程、大の親日家。


Hitspaper：あなたについて教えて下さい。
Klaus：私は1970年にフィンランド：ヘルシンキで生まれました。
フィンランドのラハティデザイン学会でイラストレーションとグラフィックデザインを勉強していましたね。
卒業直後はグラフィックデザイナーやイラストレーターといった職業は興味がなかったのですが、
ある素晴らしいビジョンをもった人物に会って私もプロフェッショナルとして活動することを決意したのです。

その後、数年間フィンランドの'Marimekko'のような会社に勤務したのですが、ファションインダストリーの勉強がしたくなりイタリアに移って、
4年間ほど非常に多くのファションブランド例えばDiesel、Stylelab、ondなど他小さなブランドのプリントデザイナーとして作品を残しています。
そして現在、ロンドンに移動してここに住んでいます。
場所はイーストロンドンでマンションの一室にスタジオを構えて仕事をしています。

Hitspaper：Could you tell us your history?
Klaus：I was born In Helsinki Finland 1970.
I Studied Illustration and Graphic design in Design Institute of Lahti, Finland.
After i graduated i wasn't so interested of having a career of Graphic designer or Illustrator at all.
But after meeting some likely minded people who shared same kind of vision I started to work professionally.

After few years of working in Finland for companies such as 'Marimekko' I decided to move to Italy since i was keen to learn more of Fashion industry.
There i Was working for quite many brands...I was key print designer for Diesel - Stylelab and ond other smaller labels for 4 years, after that i moved to London where I'm living right now.
I'm based to East London, And i got studio flat here where i'm working from.

Hitspaper：作品を通じて表現したいことを教えて下さい。
Klaus：私は物語をビジュアライズ化することに興味があります。そして観る側にストーリーを連想させるイラストレーションを提供することが目的です。
私は非常に自然に恵まれた環境で生まれ育ちました。おそらくそのことが私の作品のイマジネーションに繋がっているのでしょう、、、木や動物がそうですね。

Hitspaper：Whats are you trying to express through your work?
Klaus：I'm interested of visual story telling, and i try to achieve to create some sort of Illusion of a on going story for the viewer.
I was growing up in Finland where you are surrounded by wilderness.
And thats where my imagination comes from - The forests and animals.

Hitspaper：イラストレーターにとって最も重要な要素は何だと思いますか？
Klaus：私の意見は偉大なイラストレーターはアーティストの様に仕事をすると思います。
彼らは独自のビジョンでイメージとスタイルを確立しています。
おそらく世界ではvan Bilbin、Audrey Beardsley、Aquirax Uno、Yoshitomo Nara、Tove Janssonなどがそれに当たるでしょう。
事実彼らは元々コマーシャルワークでイラストレーションを描いているわけではありませんからね。

Hitspaper：What do you think is the most important elements for Illustorator?
Klaus：In my opinion best Illustrators work like artists, they have got own vision and a world where the images and styles are coming from.
I Think the best illustrators in the world such as Ivan Bilbin, Audrey Beardsley, Aquirax Uno and Yoshitomo Nara and Tove Jansson have lots of common.
Which isn't the fact that they also have been working for commercial institutions.

Hitspaper：仕事の中で満足いく時を教えて下さい。
Klaus：私は仕事中は常に悩まされていますね、、、そこからは満足感は生まれないです。生まれる時はプロジェクトを終えた時でしょう。

Hitspaper：When can you have a satisfaction from your work?
Klaus：My work is tormenting me quite a lot, and brief satisfaction you can get out of it - is when you finish the project.

Hitspaper：あなたの周りの環境を教えて下さい。
Klaus：ちょうどロンドンの新しい家に引っ越しをする予定なんですが、まだ準備が出来てません。
そこは非常に古い所でビクトリア朝時代から建築支援されていてそうですね100年以上はありますか、、、
私はそこの1階と上階のスタジオで仕事をします。そうでした、、、そこには私の猫'Putte Alexander'もいますよ(去年日本の雑誌「奘苑」にフィーチャーされました)。
そのスタジオは全面真白で仕事に集中できる落ち着いた良い場所です。

Hitspaper：Please talk about the environment around you?
Klaus：I'm just recently moved to a new house here in London and It's not that ready yet.
The place it self is backing from Late Victorian period, it's old .... more than 100 years old.
I work from my upper floor studio, and on the first-floor - there lives my cat 'Putte Alexander'. ( He has been featured in 'So- En' magazine in Japan last year!)

I have decorated everything white, it helps me concentrate to my work when i don't have any images on the wall or anything distracting.

Hitspaper：クリエイティブシーンで興味があることを教えて下さい。
Klaus：私は長い間ファッションに夢中だったのですが今、アニメーションに興味がありますね。
ちょうど今、日系ブラジリアンのディレクターDenis Kamiokaとアニメーションのコラボレーションをしていますし、、、
それとつい最近東京に訪れてジブリ博物館を見学してきました、、、それを見て私は彼らが最も偉大な映画製作者だと思いましたね。

Hitspaper：What genre do you find interesting in the creative scene?
Klaus：I have been quite interested of Fashion for a long time, but now I'm more into animation, I'm collaborating with Japanese-Brasilian Director Denis Kamioka who is going to combine my animated characters with real actors.
Just recently i got the change to visit Ghibli Museum in Tokyo, I think they are the greatest movie makers.

Hitspaper：将来のビジョンについて教えて下さい。
Klaus：私は人類が新たな進むべき道として地球から出ていかなければならないと感じています。
小さな惑星に旅行や移住することが可能になれば地球はおそらくもう一度生まれ変わることができるでしょう。
私が推測するにそれが可能になるのは空間と時間を短縮する'worm hole'がキーとなるはずです。
Stephen Hawkingはこういった理論を人類がより研究することが最も重要であると言及しています。

Hitspaper：Please tell us your future vision?
Klaus：I think that humankind should work some kind of way to move out of earth to move on.
The earth is over populated and i don't see no other way than just create space traveling method which could help us to take some load from this tiny planet,
I guess the answer is the 'worm hole' which is a short cut through space and time. Stephen Hawking have mentioned this theory is the uttermost important thing what human race should study more.

Klaus：私は日本が好きで非常に興味がある場所なんです。機会があれば何度でも訪れたいですね！

Hitspaper：in conclusion ,can I have the message from you to japanese people??
Klaus：I Like Japan as most interesting place at the moment, I try to visit there as often as possible!
