ドイツ：ライプツィヒを中心に活動するデザイナーユニット［JUNG + WENIG］。若いながら素晴らしいフィロソフィーを持った彼らの作品は哲学的な理論がさりげなく含有されている。世界的評価こそまだ低いが片鱗が至る所 から感じられる今後要チェックのユニット。


Hitspaper：お二人の経緯を教えて下さい。
jung&wenig：私達(Christopher Jung と Tobias Wenig)は1999年にhochschule fuer grafik&buchkunst(ライプツィヒにあるビジュアルアート大学)の入学試験で出会いました。
そして2000年に初めてhgb(学科の名称)で一緒に研究を始めました。
教授はcyan(ファウンデーション、システムデザイン専攻)と gün-ter karl(タイポグラフィ専攻)の二人で彼らは私達の大学でもかなり目立つ存在でしたね。
それ以来、私達は殆どすべての作品を一緒に手掛けていて、卒業後、2004年にはjungundwenig(jung=young und=and wenig=littleの意)というスタジオを開き、本や雑誌、CDジャケット、映像、マルチメディアの案件をカルチュラルセクターとして請け負ってき ましたね。

Hitspaper：could you tell us jung + wenig's history?
jung&wenig：we [christopher jung and tobias wenig] met at the admission test 1999 in leipzig at the hochschule fuer grafik und buchkunst [academy of visual arts leipzig] .
2000 we started studying at the hgb.
our professors were cyan [daniela haufe , detlef fiedler ; system design and foundation studies] , gün-
ter karl bose [typography] . . only to mention two outstanding teachers of our academy.
since then we have worked together on almost all our projects.
In 2004 we started doing jungundwenig [jung=young und=and wenig=little].
our work includes books,magazines,cd-covers,film and multimedia works for clients in the cultural sector . .

Hitspaper：作品を通じて表現したいことを教えて下さい。
jung&wenig：特別なことは何も表現しようと思ってないですね。
私達はそれぞれのプロジェクトでデザインがフィットすることを望んでいるだけです。そして最終的にはクライアントや私達にとって幸せになれば良いと思っています。
そしてhgbに影響されていることは否定できませんが、私達は過去より現在を見ています。
具体的にはcyanやgünter karl、markus dreßen、勿論ライプツィヒで有名なタイポグラファーjan tschicholdとwalter tiemannが残してきた作品などですね。

Hitspaper：what are you trying to express through your work ?
jung&wenig：we are not really trying to express anything special.
we want our design to fit the project ; and at the end it should look good and make the client,others and us happier.
although we can’t deny that the environment around the hgb influenced the way our design looks now.
people like cyan , günter karl bose,markus dreßen and of course the famous leipzig typographs jan tschichold,walter tiemann left their marks . .

Hitspaper：クリエーターにとって最も重要な要素は何だと思いますか？
jung&wenig：すべてのルーツを忘れないこと。
今多くの人が思い付きで見た目が良さそうなものを作っていますね、、、しかしその方法でどの位続けることが出来るでしょうか？
残念なことに客観的にみてこういった本質の善し悪しを討論される機会は少ないですが、、、

Hitspaper：what do you think is the most important elements for creator?
jung&wenig：it is important not to forget the roots of everything.
so many people make fancy and sometimes even good looking stuff , but how long will it last ?
form becomes more and more a question of public interest.
unfortunately,con-tent and the objective view whether something is good or bad are not debated to the same degree.

Hitspaper：仕事をしていて満足感を得る時を教えて下さい。
jung&wenig：殆どの場合、とても小さな事柄から私達は大きな満足感を得ていると言えますね。
例えば文字。殆ど空白のページ構成に配置されだけですが色やレイアウトだけでとても素晴らしい作品になる。
そんな風に些細なことから得るものは一杯ありますよ。

Hitspaper：when can you have a satisfaction from your work?
jung&wenig：most of the time we get the biggest satisfaction out of very small things while we work.
a letter that looks like an animal,an almost empty page with two,three good placed basic elements on it,a nice color or surface . .it can be anything .

Hitspaper：あなたのスタジオの環境を教えて下さい。
jung&wenig：私達は現在ライプツィヒの荒野で仕事をしています。
そこには古い馬厩舎や石鹸工場があったりします。
好きなようにポスターを貼ったり、部屋のレイアウトも自由に出来ますし、本も自由に読めるそれからボーリングも出来るスペースがあって私達は本当にラッキーですよ。
そしてもうすぐベルリンにスタジオを持つ予定です。

Hitspaper：please talk about the environment around your studio?
jung&wenig：we work in the wilderness of leipzig.
it’s an old horse stable of a soap factory.
we are lucky to have so much space where we can hang our posters,place all our layouts,read some books or play bowling . .
and berlin is just around the corner – the city where we will have our new office soon .

Hitspaper：最近のプロジェクトについて教えて下さい。
jung&wenig：ちょうどアイスランド人アーティストkristleifur björnsson [www.kristleifur.com] のレゴプロジェクトに携わっていました。
制作物は1×1.5mサイズのポスターです。このプロジェクトがより良い方向に行くかいつも考えながら作り続けましたね。
加えて新しいプロジェクトとして始まるトビアスレーナーのカタログのコピーを待っているところです。
また現在、私達はベルリンで仕事が出来る新しいギャラリーを探していますよ。

Hitspaper：please tell us about current project?
jung&wenig：we just finished a book for the icelandic artist kristleifur björnsson [www.kristleifur.com] including a 1 x 1.5 m poster of his lego project ; we always dreamt of making something with or for lego.

additionally we are curiously waiting to recieve a copy of the new Tobias Lehner catalogue [paintings] which we designed.
at the moment we are trying to find some new galleries in berlin to work for . .

Hitspaper：クリエイティブシーンで興味あることを教えて下さい。
jung&wenig：グラフィックデザイン以外では、音楽に非常に興味がありますね、、、それから文学や建築もしくはインダストリアデザイン、そこから派生する陰陽それから騒音、静寂への興味は尽きることはないでしょう。
あなたが自身で興味あることに情熱を注ぐことと同じように他のクリエィティブシーンに目を向けることが出来るのならばジャンルは全く関係ないと思います。それは靴の製造かもしれませんし、掘削かもしれないしドライブすることかもしれません。

Hitspaper：what genre do you find interesting in the creative scene?
jung&wenig：excluded graphic-design,we both like music very much,but in the end it doesn’t really matter if it is literature,architecture or industrial-design it is about bright and dark,loud and quiet . .
more or less we are all doing the same things,trying to put some love in it ; and if you can see that there is some,it doesn’t matter what genre it is – it can be shoe making or excava- tor driving.

Hitspaper：将来のビジョンを教えて下さい。
jung&wenig：私達は生活する為の最低限のお金を得ることが出来れば満足です。
ですから今後も魂を売ることになってしまうなら大きな広告代理店とは仕事はしないでしょうね。

Hitspaper：please tell us jung + wenig's future vision?
jung&wenig：we hope to make enough money for an ok living with the things we love to do,so that we don’t have to go to one of these big advertising agencies and sell our souls.

jung&wenig：someday we might meet somewhere,maybe not, hopefully yes.
