世界を舞台に活躍するバルーンアーティスト[Daisy]。2006年の世界初バルーンドレスコンテストで優勝を果たし、また、数々の世界大会にて受賞。
研ぎすまされたファッショナブルな感性が世界で認められると同時に、子供達にパフォーマンスを行う柔らかさを併せ持つ。この二つの振り幅をもつ[Daisy]さんにその人間性、バルーンに対する憶いなど話を伺った。
Daisy is a worldly known balloon artist. She has won the world’s first ever balloon dress competition and countless awards forward.
Along with her keen sense of fashion, she holds affectionate side when performing in front of the kids. I have interviewed this multi-talented artist, about her charisma and vision towards balloons.
Hitspaper：初めに読者の方に自己紹介をお願いできますか？
Daisy：Daisyです。趣味はものづくりです。よろしくおねがいします。
Hitspaper：Please introduce yourself to the readers.
Daisy：My name is Daisy. My hobby is crafting. Thank you for having me here.

Hitspaper：バルーンアーティストというと今までの固定観念からいくと、大道芸などのイメージが強いのですが、Daisyさんはどの様なきっかけでバルーンに興味を持ったのでしょうか？
Daisy：花屋で働いていた時、会場等の装飾をするバルーンデコレーション部門に配属されたのがバルーンとの最初の出会いですね。当時は先輩に教えてもらって、デコレーションをしていたのですが、その内、Twister用の長いバルーンに出会ってひねったり出来たりと面白いなと思い、いつの間にかバルーンで作品を制作するようになっていました。
Hitspaper：When I think of “balloon art,” it reminds me of street performance. How did you start working on balloons?
Daisy：When I was working at a flower shop, I was assigned to the balloon decoration team for party venues. That was the first time I worked with balloons. At that time my senior designer of the team taught me how to work with balloons, then one day I learned about twisting long inflated balloons. I was amused by the art of twisting balloons and then started working on balloon arts.

Hitspaper：独立されたのは？
Daisy：本当は花屋で本格的に花に携わりたくて、当初、バルーンデコレーション部門に配属され少し不満だったのです。ですので、辞めると決めた時から「半年後に退社します」と宣言をしました(笑)。その半年間の初期の頃はどっぷり花にのめり込むような環境の花屋を探していたのですが、半年間が終わりかける頃、一つの契機が訪れたのです。
そのきっかけは、私のおばあちゃんが認知症で入院している際、彼女を喜ばせる為、バルーンを創ってあげた事です。
Hitspaper：When did you become independent?
Daisy：Actually I really wanted to concentrate on flowers, so I was pretty disappointed when I was assigned to the balloon decoration team. So I told the store that I will quit in 6 months. At the beginning of the 6 months period, I was concentrating on searching for flower shop that will allow me to work with just flowers. But I hit the turning point at the end of the 6th month. My grandmother was hospitalized for dementia, so I made her a balloon object to make her happy.

Hitspaper：ドラマになりそうないい話ですね(笑)
Daisy：(笑)花屋さんでお客さんの為に、花束を創って渡す時に笑顔で「ありがとう」と言われるあの喜びと原点は同じだと思いますね。
今でもこの感覚は私のコアな部分でもあります。
Hitspaper：Sounds like you could make a movie out of this story (laughs).
Daisy：(laughing) When I wrapped the flowers at the store and hand it to the customer, they smile and say, “thank you.” It is a very heartwarming moment. I believe the feeling of joy is the same with flowers or balloons.
Until now, that feeling is the very basic part of me.

Hitspaper：その後、Japan Balloon Twister Conventionというコンテストに出場して、いきなり優勝してしまう訳ですが、コンテストに出場しようと思ったきっかけは何でしょうか？結構、勇気がいる事だと思いますが、、、
Daisy：人に薦められて出場しました。ただ、出場するからには、とことん自分の制作したいものをやろうと思った。クライアントワークでもないし、自己への挑戦という意味合いが大きかったと思います。
Hitspaper：You will then compete in Japan Balloon Twisters Convention and wins it on your first trial. What made you compete? I think you need a lot of courage to compete.
Daisy：Someone recommended me to compete. But then I though, if I’m competing, I want to put in everything I had. It was not for a customer, so it meant more like a challenge to myself.

Hitspaper：Daisyさんの生き方は結果が後から付いてくるといったとても素晴らしいモノですね。幼少期から目標を自己設定して、それに突き進むタイプだったのでしょうか？
Daisy：そうですね。幼少期から目標を決めてアクションをするタイプの人間だと思います。昔は獣医になりたかったのですが、動物を治療する際、悲痛な声を上げるので、、、
花やバルーンは何も言いません(笑)。
Hitspaper：Your lifestyle amazes me that your accomplishments come afterwards. Since you were a child, have you always been the type where you adhere to the goal and aim right to it?
Daisy：Yes. I think I have always been the type where I set the goal and then make action. I have always wanted to become a veterinarian, but animals howl… On the other hand, flowers and balloons don’t talk (laughs).
Hitspaper：バルーンは捻ると叫びますよね(笑)。
Daisy：(笑)面白い事言いますねー！
いずれにしろ、花はやっぱり好きですね、、、色や形が思い通りにならないからこそ、愛情を注ぎ込める。
Hitspaper：But balloons do squeak when you twist it (laughs).
Daisy：(laughing) That is very funny!
Either way, I like flowers…their shapes and colors are uncontrollable, so I can be more passionate to them.

Hitspaper：私はDaisyさんのファッショナブルな作品から入ったので、正直こういう話の展開にびっくりしています。一つ聞いてみたい事があるのですが、バルーンはプロダクトのように形に残りません。いずれ空気が抜けてしまいますし、花という自然物とも概念が異なってきます。こういう事を踏まえてバルーンアーティストとしてどのような憶いで作品を制作されているのでしょうか？
Daisy：確かに、バルーンはいずれ空気が抜けてしまい半永久的に形を留めておく事は出来ません。また、形状や存在が非日常的なものですよね。けれど、そこに感動があれば良いと思っています。形に残らなくても、その場で感じる憶いは伝染していくモノだと思いますし。そして、現在では、写真や映像といったテクノロジーで記録する事も出来ますしね。
それから、花は咲いたら枯れますし、非常にバルーンと似ている部分もあると思います。
Hitspaper：I am surprised of how this interview is going, considering the first impression I had of your work was so fashionable. I want to ask you one thing, balloons don’t last very long, and it will lose its air someday, but not exactly the same as flower’s mortality. Considering this, how do you approach on balloon art?
Daisy：It is true that balloons can’t keep its shape permanently. Also, its form and existence is inorganic. But I believe if it can bring joy, then that’s all that matters. The physical shape is not permanent, but the feeling it brings to people will spread. Besides, with the modern technology, we can record them into digital images and videos.
And flowers do die in the end, so I think it is very similar to balloons.

Hitspaper：もう少し突っ込んで質問させて下さい。この媒体を立ち上げて多くのクリエーターの話をお聞きして常々感じている事なのですが、インターネットを初め、多くのテクノロジーが発達した事で、奥行きがある所謂クラフトマンシップといった概念がもう一度見直されているように感じます。次代を超えて淘汰されず残っているモノって何だと考えますか？
Daisy：難しい質問ですね、、、それは常々考えています。食物、衣服、住居といった形あるものは生きていく為に必要な物ですが、バルーンやアートは必ずしも必要なモノではありません。この答えは価値観の細分化によって異なってくると思います。少なくてとも、私は、残る残らないに関わらず「バルーン＝スマイル」だと思っています。バルーンで子供が喜ぶ、それを見て親が喜ぶ、スマイルが伝染してみんなが笑える雰囲気・空間を創造していければ、私は幸せです。
Hitspaper：Please allow me to ask more in depth question. Since I started on this website and interviewed many artists, I have been thinking that with the technology advancing, the primitive form of craftsmanship is being reevaluated. What do you think is the form of art that will survive through upcoming generation?
Daisy：That is a tough question…I do think about it often. Foods, clothes, and shelters are concrete objects that we need to survive, but balloons and arts are not one of the necessities. Answer to that question will depend on the value of each one of us. It doesn’t matter if balloons last or not, at least I believe that “balloons = smiles.” Kids smile looking at balloons, and parents smile watching their kids. If they can create the laughing atmosphere and space by spreading the smiles, that will me happy.

Hitspaper：Daisyさんのコアな原点が見えて来ましたね。ではDaisyさんの二つの側面、ファッショナブル作品とスマイルを伝播する作品とそれぞれについて教えて下さい。
Daisy：そうですね。この二つは制作する時の心境が全く異なりますね。子供にパフォーマンスをしてあげる時は、兎に角自分が楽しい感覚。今までのノウハウを共有する事で初めのスマイルを作る。ファッショナブルな作品は、対自己との戦い。職人というかテクニックを練り上げる修練の場が近いですね。この二つの振り幅がそれぞれの側面で活きて来ると思っています。他の世界を見る事でそれぞれの世界への還元が出来るような感覚ですね。
Hitspaper：I’m starting to see the your origin. Then please tell me the two sides you carry, one for fashionable works and other one that spreads smiles.
Daisy：Let me see. The mental status differs greatly when working in these two types of works. When performing for kids, I try to enjoy the time myself. I make them smile for the first time by sharing my knowledge. When working on fashionable pieces, is all about challenge within myself. It is more like training for technique and skills. I think these two sides live on each side. Its like by visiting one side from another, I can come back to the other side.
Hitspaper：哲学的な話になるのですが、私は作品や仕事は手段であって目的ではないと思っています。目的は人生や人間性に手段から学びとって生き方として還っていく事なので作品にその人間やプロジェクトの意義が溢れて出てくるモノが大切だと思うのですが、Daisyさんの作品は将来的にもっと生き方や人間性が溢れ出てくるものになると思いますよ。
Daisy：ありがとうございます。長いスキームで俯瞰して見ると、何の為にバルーンを創造していくか解らなる時も極たまにありますが、続ける事で何か見えてくると思っています。
Hitspaper：This is going to sound philosophical, but I always think that art pieces and works are methods and not goals. Humans learn from the methods, and the knowledge gained returns to goals as lifestyle, so the significance of the artists and project should overflow from the art pieces. I believe that your art works will overflow with lifestyle and humanity in the future.
Daisy：Thank you very much. When I look back in long scheme, there were times when I get lost with the purpose on working with balloons, but I believe I will start to see something if I continue.

Hitspaper：最後に将来チャレンジしたい事などあれば教えて下さい。
Daisy：フルマラソン参加です。まだ１０キロも走れていないので。今までの自分の未体験ゾーンにチャレンジしたいです。
Hitspaper：At last, please tell us if there is anything you want to achieve in the future.
Daisy：I want to run the full marathon. I can't even run 10 km at this moment. I want to challenge something I have never experienced before.

G/P galeryにて、2009年4月24日(金)より5月下旬まで、小山泰介個展『entropix』が開催される。 小山は刻々と変化していく都市を生物や自然と同じような有機体としてとらえ、都市の新陳代謝のような人工物の表面や状態、現象の細部をデジタルカメラで撮影し、有機的で抽象度の高い写真作品を制作している今最も注目の作家。

クリエイティブエージェンシーWieden+Kennedyのブランドブック“A story of who we are：私たちの物語”がリリース。このブックは世界中にある全７オフィスをフィルターにして、ワイデン＋ケネディのユニークなストーリーを紹介し、150ページのハードカバーの１冊に納められ、それぞれのオフィスのカルチャーガイド、同社の創立者であるDan Wiedenのステッカー、東京オフィス発の音楽レーベルW+K TokyoLabのCD/DVD、そして本の裏表紙に埋まっているUSBメモリスティックで構成されている。
Soothe one-man live 2009

津軽三味線・和太鼓・ギター・ベース・ドラムからなるインストゥルメンタル ジャムバンド[Soothe]が、2009年4月25日(土)に、duo MUSIC EXCHANGEにてワンマンライブを開催する。今回のワンマンライブでは、ミュージシャンはもちろん、世界的に有名なアーティストとの映像によるコラボも予定している。初夏には３枚のアルバムも、リリースされる予定で、今回は、特別にLive会場のみでの先行発売もおこなわれる。今後注目のバンドだけにぜひ足を運んで欲しい。

イタリアのプレミアム・カジュアル・ブランドDIESELがディーゼルのモバイルサイトと全国のディーゼルストアにて、2009年3月11日(水)～4月7日(火)の期間限定のDIESEL UNIVERSITYを開校している。ディーゼルのモバイルサイトではDIESEL UNIVERSITYのモバイルコース“DIESEL CHALLENGE”を開講。ディーゼルにまつわるPOP QUIZを実施する。

G/P galleryにて2月27日(金)から、今世界で最も注目される写真家の一人、スティーヴン・ギルの日本初個展となる『Hackney Flowers』を開催中。作家の代表作である同名のシリーズは全47点で構成されており、今回はオリジナルプリントを10点展示、また本展会期中には同シリーズ全47点を含めたオリジナルプリントを販売している。

仙台クリエイティブ・クラスター・コンソーシアムの平成20年度助成事業であるfeslabがプロデュースするイベントが2009年3月17日(火)〜29日(日)の会期で開催。テーマは「交差」。現実と空想、音楽と映像、光と影、過去と未来、視覚と聴覚といった境界線そのものを体験するインスタレーションの展示となっている。
